LED C9 bulbs
LED C9 bulbs are retrofit bulbs with an E17 intermediate base. They screw into standard C9 socket wire in place of incandescent C9 lamps. They come in 25-packs for re-lamps and color matching, and in 500-bulb cases for full rooflines. A 500-bulb case fills 500 ft. of socket wire at 12 in. spacing or about 625 ft. at 15 in. spacing. Faceted and smooth styles are offered in several color temperatures and colors, selected on each product page.
LED mini light strands
LED mini strands carry 50 lights and connect end to end. 4 in. spacing gives a denser wrap for trunks, columns and close-viewed shrubs; 6 in. spacing covers more length per strand for canopies and larger trees. Single strands suit small jobs and fill-ins, and 24-strand cases keep a whole tree or property on the same wire color and light color.
LED C9 installation kits
C9 installation kits come in 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 ft. at 12 in. and 15 in. spacing. Each kit combines socket wire, LED C9 bulbs to fill every socket, slide-on plugs and clips. The larger sizes fit commercial rooflines, apartment and HOA buildings, and installers stocking for several homes at once.
Why LED changes the power plan
Each LED C9 bulb draws a small fraction of the power of an incandescent C9 lamp. On a typical outdoor circuit, that means a run is far more likely to be limited by the rating of the wire and plugs than by the breaker. Fewer circuits, fewer extension leads and fewer tripped breakers follow from that. The guide below walks through the math.
Matching LED C9 and LED mini lights on one property
Many installs pair a C9 roofline with mini lights on trees, columns and shrubs. Keep the color temperature consistent between the two so the roofline and the landscape read as one display. Warm white C9 bulbs pair with warm white mini strands, and pure or cool white with the same. Order mini strands by the case when a property has several trees, so every strand on the property matches in light color and wire color.

Power planning: LED vs incandescent
The main practical difference between LED and incandescent Christmas lights on an install is power. It changes how many bulbs a circuit carries, how runs are split and how many leads have to be pulled back to outlets. This guide covers the math an installer needs to plan circuits for an LED display.
Start with the circuit
Most outdoor outlets on homes and small commercial buildings sit on a 15 A or 20 A, 120 V circuit. Multiply amps by volts for the circuit's capacity, then plan for no more than 80% of it, since lights run for hours at a time:
- 15 A circuit: 15 × 120 = 1,800 W; 80% = 1,440 W usable.
- 20 A circuit: 20 × 120 = 2,400 W; 80% = 1,920 W usable.
Subtract anything else on the same circuit. Garage outlets often share a breaker with a freezer, an opener or shop tools, and those loads count against the lights.
Watts per bulb
Incandescent C9 lamps are commonly rated around 7 W each. LED C9 retrofit bulbs are rated at a fraction of that, usually around a watt or less. The exact figure is printed on the bulb package, and that's the number to plan with. The same gap applies to mini lights: a 50-light LED strand draws a small fraction of a 50-light incandescent strand.
Bulbs per circuit
Divide the usable watts by the watts per bulb. On a 15 A circuit at 1,440 W:
- Incandescent C9 at 7 W: about 205 bulbs, or roughly 205 ft. of roofline at 12 in. spacing.
- LED C9 at 1 W: about 1,440 bulbs.
- LED C9 at 0.5 W: about 2,880 bulbs.
With incandescent bulbs a two-story roofline often needs two or three circuits. With LED bulbs the circuit usually stops being the limit.
The limit that takes over: wire and plugs
Once the breaker isn't the constraint, the rating of the socket wire, slide-on plugs and any extension leads becomes the one to watch. Each is printed on the product or its label in amps or watts. On a daisy-chained run, the first section of wire carries the current for every bulb after it, so add up the full chain and compare it to the smallest rating in the path. If it's over, split the chain into two runs fed separately from the outlet or timer.
Timers and GFCIs
A photocell timer carries the whole load plugged into it, so check its rating against the total for that circuit. Photocell timers are $11 each, or $10.75 each in a 4-pack. Every outdoor circuit should be GFCI-protected. A GFCI that trips repeatedly is usually reporting moisture in a connection, not an overload, so check plugs and sockets on that run first.
A quick circuit plan for a job
- List the outlets available on the property and the breaker each is on.
- Note the other loads on each of those circuits.
- Total the bulbs and strands planned for each area and multiply by watts per bulb or strand.
- Assign each area to a circuit with room under its 80% figure.
- Check each daisy chain against the wire, plug and lead ratings, and split any that run over.
- Put one photocell timer on each circuit so the whole display switches together.
Retrofitting an incandescent display
Because LED C9 bulbs use the same E17 base, an existing C9 socket wire display can be converted by swapping bulbs. The circuits that needed splitting for incandescent loads can often be consolidated afterward, but check the wire's condition and rating first, since older wire may be the weak link. A 500-bulb case of LED C9 bulbs works out to $0.638 per bulb.
For new commercial rooflines, the 2,000 ft. 12 in. kit, 4,000 ft. 12 in. kit, 2,000 ft. 15 in. kit, 4,000 ft. 15 in. kit are listed with the same LED C9 bulbs.
Questions
Do I need an account or application for case pricing?
No. Pack and case prices are shown on every product page and in the pricing table. Anyone can order a case without signing up.
Will LED C9 bulbs work in my existing C9 socket wire?
Yes. LED C9 bulbs use the E17 intermediate base, the same base as incandescent C9 bulbs, so they screw into standard C9 sockets.
How many LED C9 bulbs fit on one circuit?
Divide the usable wattage of the circuit (about 1,440 W on a 15 A, 120 V circuit at 80% load) by the watts per bulb printed on the package. With LED bulbs the result is usually larger than the wire or plug rating allows, so check the run's rating too and use the smaller number.
How many mini strands can connect end to end?
Each strand's tag lists the maximum number of strands that can be connected in a row. LED strands allow many more than incandescent strands; follow the number on the tag.
What's the difference between a 25-pack and a 500-bulb case?
Only the quantity and the per-bulb price. Both are listed on the product page with the cost per bulb, so the break-even point is easy to see.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on all orders to the contiguous United States, with no order minimum.
When will my order ship?
Every order ships the same day it's placed, whatever time you order. There's no cutoff.
What are sun warm, warm, pure and cool white?
They describe color temperature. Sun warm white (about 2600–2800K) is the most amber, closest to incandescent. Warm white (about 2800–3200K) is the traditional soft white. Pure white (about 4000–4200K) is neutral, and cool white (5900K and up) has a blue tint.
What's the difference between C9 and C7 bulbs?
C9 bulbs are the larger of the two, about 1⅛ in. across on an E17 intermediate base, and are the standard for rooflines and commercial displays viewed from the street. C7 bulbs are smaller, on an E12 candelabra base, and suit close-viewed spaces like porches, railings and walkways.
Can I return items I don't use?
Yes. Unused, uninstalled product in its original, intact packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Request the return before shipping anything back.
